The official groundbreaking for the Marshall Regional Track & Field Complex was on April 14, 2014. The complex is located on the northeast corner of the SMSU campus and is a renovation and expansion of the existing Mattke Field stadium. The project is a partnership with SMSU and Marshall Schools.
The Marshall Regional Track and Field Complex includes a 9-lane, double bend, 400-meter track and includes a water jump pit, hurdle for the steeplechase and high jump area. An NCAA regulation, synthetic turf, soccer/football field is also placed within the track. Also included in the complex are track and field facilities located north of the stadium and consist of long/triple jump, pole vault, shot put, discus and the javelin. The complex was completed in the fall of 2014, with the official ribbon-cutting on Oct. 25, 2014. The grand opening was held on April 14, 2015, prior to the first high school track & field meet held at the complex.
